"Trust!" the dragonfly said, doing a little dance and fluttering its wings.
The man, sitting by the lake, looked at the dragonfly and said, "I'm not so sure."
"Trust!" the dragonfly said, flying in two loops and then standing on its head.
The man looked at the dragonfly and said, "Trust in Whom?"
"Trust!" the dragonfly said, buzzing over the man's head and then landing on his ear.
The man pondered this for a while, and then said, "What if I end up with nothing?"
The dragonfly giggled a little, which meant that its wings buzzed, tickling the man's ear.
"What is nothing? the dragonfly whispered, just loud enough for the man to hear.
"Nothing is when you lose everything and you are poor and destitute and you feel that no one will ever love you again."
The dragonfly considered this for a while. It scratched its little dragonfly head with a dragonfly foot. Its nature was so different then that of men. It seemed that the world of human beings was full of this kind of thinking and questioning. For the dragonfly, it was not its nature to question. But because the dragonfly loved the man with all of its dragonfly essence, it considered this question for a long, long time.
When evening set in, and the sky was turning colors of purple and orange and pink, the dragonfly found the answer. The dragonfly did a little dance in front of the man, signalling him to pay attention. Then the dragonfly headed straight toward the sun. As it flew, a little trail of silver followed its path. It was not a straight path but was looping and had a rhythm all its town. When the dragonfly got to the sun, the sun disappeared down below the horizon, leaving only a purple hue in its place.
The man, who watched the whole thing, noticed that the color of the sky was the color of the dragonfly. It was tender, the man thought, seeing how the dragonfly would go to such ends to answer his question.
But he wondered what it meant. Why would the dragonfly disappear like that?
He went home, puzzled.
The next day, the dragonfly was sitting on a log near the lake, when the man approached.
"I thought you were gone," the man said to the little dragon-winged creature.
"Trust," the dragonfly said, and did a little dance, fluttering its wings.
